SODA BOTTLE OPENER WALA , KOLKATA

The wind was chilly, the evening was dark, search was for something hot. Naturally the favour was for  Soda Bottle Opener Wala, situated on the 4th floor of South City Mall, Kolkata, an eclectic mixture of Bombay and Parsi food. This is the best place to taste iconic dishes from the heart of Bombay. Parsi food is one of the most delicious food type in the world. It came to India thousands of years ago. Soda Bottle Opener Wala had done an amazing job is bringing up the dying legacy of Parsi foods. 

The ambience has been perfectly recreated just like one would find while eating out in Bombay. It is warm, busy, and chaotic, numerous orders getting served every second. Colourful decorations with songs by famous Bollywood artists and singers playing on speakers, cricket matches on both the large screens at the highest volume, small and numerous tables really brings out the Bombay vibe. There is a bar counter at the entrance. The bar menu contained a huge variety of spirits. Beside that a tea counter with various kinds of cookie sand biscuits inside jars. The wall hangings were eye-catching. The waiters and servers are very well mannered and polite as well. 



Devi Prasad Kejriwal's favourite at Willingdon Club Bombay, named after him in his memory, was: Eggs Kejriwal, the best way to start the meal. Sunnyside up eggs on toast with finely chopped green chillies, mushroom and cheese. Every bite feels like heaven on Earth. Classic Akuri, Parsi-styled scrambled eggs; served with buttered toast, is the embodiment of "simplicity is the ultimate sophistication"- Leonardo da Vinci. One should definitely try out Irani chai, original Irani milk tea. 




The perfect quality and quantity of spices makes it the most famous and moreish delicacies of Bombay.  Salli Boti is one of the best non-veg preparations here, a Parsi-styled boneless mutton curry topped with potato salli. Every single mutton pieces is soft and savoury. Berry pulao is fragrant basmati rice cooked with vegetables and topped with fried onions, nuts, and berries from Iran, the iconic Irani rice preparation. It goes with any dish: be it veg or non-veg. Vegetables cooked the Parsi way in coconut, sesame and coriander gravy gives birth to Parsi Vegetable Curry; served with steamed rice. The exquisite coconut taste is bound to  make one admire the of Parsi foods.
